My Nighttime Visitor

I was walking home late last week from the library to grab something from the BLUU before I headed back home. The day had turned dark and a bright full moon was seen clearly from the sky. The walk from the library late at night almost always feels like a lonely one. You most likely were there late because of a big test the next day or a recently completed project. You leave the library wishing you would have done more work instead of surfing the web. You think of all of the other students still in there studying while were not able to keep your eyes open long enough to make it.
As I was walking back from the library to get something to eat at the BLUU, I found myself on the long, narrow stretch on the sides of the Commons which is the only illuminated area as you walk. As I turned the corner to head down this lighted stretch of concrete, I saw some animal only 20 yards slip out of the light. I had seen several foxes roaming around recently but this certainly was not a fox. The tail was not furry but rather long and hairless. I sped up my pace to see if I could get another glimpse of this creature. After a brisk, cautious walk, I was able to catch up to this unknown animal. I had found a possum. I cannot say that it was the cutest possum I had ever seen if that’s even possibility. Regardless, I realized that I was very much not alone on this walk with this possum by my side.
